Paris, France The French Academy of Sciences at the Institut de France in Paris has awarded on November 28, the €15,000 (US$19,415) Alcan Prize for Research to Dr. Hervé Duval, Associate Professor at the Chemical and Material Engineering Laboratory at the engineering school "Ecole Centrale Paris".

The annual prize is awarded to researchers with a PhD, who are younger than 45 years of age, and internationally recognized for their basic or applied research related to the aluminum industry. Dr. Duval was recognized for his work in physical simulation and modeling of liquid aluminum filtration by an original method for industrial aluminum use.
The prize recognizes scientific achievements that enable progress in the aluminum industry or, more generally, knowledge developments in materials upstream processing and properties that usefully contribute to this industry.
The winner is selected from suggestions put forward by renowned scientists from different academic organizations. The selection panel consists of members from the French Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Technology of France.
