Alcan’s global Research and Technology network is comprised of Research Laboratories, Applied Engineering Centres and plant technical departments covering all major markets and regions. In 2006, Alcan invested $220 million in research and technology.
With the subsequent acquisition of Pechiney, the Company’s Research and Technology capability was significantly strengthened by the addition of central laboratory, six specialized laboratories and a leading R&D presence in the aerospace sector.
Alcan’s Research and Technology laboratories collaborate on projects with leading universities throughout the world and the Company’s scientists and engineers regularly publish articles on cutting-edge research topics in leading, peer-reviewed journals.

These Applied Engineering Centres leverage Alcan’s overall research activities and focus on product applications and providing technical development support to customers. The Applied Engineering Centres draw extensively on the resources and scientific competencies of the central laboratories.
