Alcan Contributes more than CAN$1.5 Million to Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean Organizations in 2005

SaguenayLac-Saint-Jean, Quebec Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) announced today that in 2005 it contributed more than CAN$1.5 million to approximately 225 organizations in Quebec’s Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, primarily through the efforts of its Community Investment Program.

"Alcan places great importance on investing in the region’s economic, social and environmental development and is proud to support organizations that are committed to the long-term sustainability of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean," said Jean Simon, President, Alcan Primary Metal Group, Quebec and USA. “We are convinced that initiatives like our Community Investment Program help us forge partnerships conducive to the development of pivotal projects for the region,” he added.

At a meeting attended by representatives of a number of organizations that have received support from Alcan over the past year, the Company said that it will continue to provide support in 2006 for projects aligned with corporate sustainability criteria, including economic, social and environmental contributions.

Alcan contributes at least one percent of its Canadian pre-tax profits in the form of donations and sponsorships, in targeted sectors: education, health, economic development, the arts, and culture events.
