Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) announced today that in 2005 it contributed more than CAN$1.5 million to approximately 225 organizations in Quebec’s Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, primarily through the efforts of its Community Investment Program.

At a meeting attended by representatives of a number of organizations that have received support from Alcan over the past year, the Company said that it will continue to provide support in 2006 for projects aligned with corporate sustainability criteria, including economic, social and environmental contributions.
Alcan contributes at least one percent of its Canadian pre-tax profits in the form of donations and sponsorships, in targeted sectors: education, health, economic development, the arts, and culture events.
