Alcan Sells Rolled Product Circles Operation 2002/09/25

Montreal, Canada — Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) today announced the sale of its rolled product circles production unit, located in Pieve Emanuele, Italy to Aliberico Group of Madrid, Spain. Alcan's sale of the circles operation is the result of a portfolio review of its European rolled products businesses and a decision to focus on higher value opportunities. The transaction is expected to be finalized in Q4 2002. The circles, manufactured from sheet aluminum at the Pieve facility, are largely for the kitchenware market. Alcan Rolled Products will continue to operate its other facilities in Pieve including the continuous casting and cold rolling mill operations.
