Montreal, Canada — Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) was the proud recipient of three awards at the Flexible Packaging Association’s (FPA) Annual Achievement Awards held February 25, 2005 in Carlsbad, California. The FPA is the leading trade organization for flexible packaging converters and suppliers. The FPA Annual Achievement Awards honour packaging and converting organizations that demonstrate breakthrough technologies, printing techniques, package structures, environmental advantages, and new end-uses.

The Alcan Packaging Food Americas sector headed by Ilene Gordon, received the Gold Award in the packaging excellence category for its microwavable, high-barrier Non-foil Retortable Pouch for Asian Style Selections for the retail food market. The Food Americas sector also received a Silver Award in the technical innovation category for its ClearShield™ Bone-in Shrink Bag, a multi-layer film that offers superior puncture resistance primarily for fresh meat products. "We work in partnership with our customers to respond to their needs with tailored solutions that deliver the highest standards of product integrity and safety," said Gordon.
Alcan Packaging Global Pharmaceutical sector led by Michael Rubenstein, earned the Gold Award in the technical innovation category for the Autopak® Sterilization Pouch, serving the institutional medical market. "Our R&D efforts are focused on anticipating and responding to new product challenges in order to help our customers stay ahead in the markets they serve," concluded Rubenstein.
The FPA Annual Achievement Awards goal is to showcase the diverse uses for flexible packaging in this modern age. A record-breaking 89 entries were received this year, proving the industry’s dedication to meeting market needs.
